How To Password
Protect Your Directories
After you have created the user list, next is
to ...
Select the directory to be protected.
Click "Directory List".

Click the directory that you want to protect.
In this example, the directory "subfolder" is selected.

Fill in the fields.
Enable Password Protection : Check this box to
protect the directory.
Realm : This will identify the area you are protecting.
It is largely for display purposes.
User List : Select the user list that you have
created. Only user names in the selected user list can
access the protected directory.
Click "UPDATE".

If successfully done, when you click on "Directory
List", you can see the
"Yes" in the "Protected" column..

And when you visited the protected directory,
you will get a similar dialogue box asking for user name
and password to access the directory....

IMPORTANT NOTES
Once a user gained access
to the protected directory, the access is still granted even
if he/she leaves the directory.
That means, when the user tries to gain access to the protected
directory for the FIRST time, he/she will be asked for
a password. If the user leaves the directory, visits other
directories, and then goes back to the protected directory,
he/she will NOT be asked for a password. To "reset"
the user authentication, close the browser. In some cases,
you may need to clear the cache and cookies
As with all security measures over the Internet, nothing is
100% secure. The same applies to this method of protecting
your directories..
